You don't need to be fit to start Personal Training
Worrying that you are not fit enough to start training is a bit like thinking your car is not broken enough to take to the mechanic. It is just daft. Getting fitter is the reason you come, not the ticket you need to get in.
Training should meet you. You should not have to meet it. A good trainer adapts to you, so much so that you barely notice it happening. You come as you are, in whatever shape that is today.
What it is like as a beginner
We train outdoors, and for a beginner that is close to perfect. We use a park here in Caterham, Surrey, and we have a lot of fun doing it. Into the great outdoors, with room to move and no mirrored room closing in on you.
It should feel like play. You enjoy your way through it rather than gritting your teeth and counting down the minutes.
The kit is simple on purpose. Cones, suspension trainers, weighted bars. Easy to pick up, use and put down, with no complicated machines to figure out. You spend the session moving, not puzzling over a diagram bolted to a leg press.
And there is no gym full of people watching and judging. Outdoors, it is just you and the work. For a lot of beginners, that one thing changes everything.
Why worrying about your fitness is the wrong worry
The session bends to fit you, not the other way round. Some days it turns into more of a walk in the park, if that is what you need that day, and that still counts. You turned up and you moved, and the more you move, the better you feel.
You do not need to arrive fit. You do not need to know the moves. You need to turn up. There is no test to pass before you begin. The first session is the start.
What you get from it
I use my expert eye to guide you through the movements, so you feel safe and still hit your goal. That is my job. You bring the effort, I look after the how. Week by week the movements come easier, and you start to trust your body more. You move better, you feel stronger, and that follows you into the rest of your week.
Sessions are 50 minutes. I am a qualified Personal Trainer with Faster Health and Fitness, and, like with my Pilates, personal training with me gets you serious results, but in a fun way. We work hard but in a fun way, and you leave better than when you arrived.
